Viewing Calendar Events in Mozilla Thunderbird
July 10th, 2007

Using an add-on for Mozilla Thunderbird called Lightning, you can view events properly in Mozilla Thunderbird.
There are currently 2 Mozilla projects that let you do this, Sunbird and Lightning. I prefer Lightning because it integrates nicely with the email client.
You can view more information on the Mozilla Calendar Project.
Have you ever received those Events sent by Microsoft Outlook, and see them as raw text, like this:
Raw text:
BEGIN:VCALENDAR
PRODID:-//Microsoft Corporation//Outlook 11.0 MIMEDIR//EN
VERSION:2.0
METHOD:REQUEST
BEGIN:VEVENT
When you install the Lightning Add-On, you get a better view of the event.
You can also send events, and view your following events inside the thunderbird client.
This is how you see it once it’s installed:

Daniel,
Thanks for posting this, I had this very issue yesterday and found your post quickly and now my vCalendar events are much more readable!
I’ll be blogging about this soon and I’ve added full credit to where I got the information.
Thanks again,
Andy.

Thanks Andrew,
I’m glad it helped you. I was having troubles finding a solution on the net. I used to use Sunbird, but it wasn’t integrated like lightning. I’ve just done some test searches on google and it’s coming up first, so that is good
You’ve got a really good blog. I’ve always wanted to get into ROR but never had the time. I’ve subscribed to your rss feeds. Hopefully I’ll get a lot of info from your site
cheers

I had a similar problem but with Firefox. I uploaded a VCalendar file and when I view the file in FireFox it turns into codes. Glad to come across this website and I might be able to find the reasons why it does that on Firefox.
